ABIDE: Tapping into the Source of All

After the SUN STAND STILL Worship & Prayer Event, which we hosted at Harvest on 14 April 2012, I began asking God, “What’s next?”

The word I got was ABIDE…

I initially felt the word was a personal one. But as I dug deeper into scripture and shared it with my Small Group leaders and others, we saw God confirm that word over and over again as a Word in season.

On Saturday, 15 September 2012 we hosted ABIDE: Sun Stand Still Worship Event. Our heart was for a creative, city-wide, multi-media worship event that again would stir ‘prayer and audacious faith as we abide in Him’.

Without abiding audacious faith is arrogance, presumption and pride in our own strength and ability, but if we abide in Him; audacious faith is courage and boldness as we trust that His Word and His promises are true first and foremost in scripture and then prophetically’.

A part of our mission at Harvest is that we would ‘Be a Resource to Others’. Tony Fitzgerald said, when he visited us in April 2012, “In order for us to be a resource we have to be tapped into the Source!” As we abide in Him, as we ‘Tap into the Source of All Things’ we are able to impart to others His Father-heart, His unconditional love, His power, His fruit, and all the goodness that comes from Him. That’s the key statement we put on all the T-shirts and branding; ‘Tapping into the SOURCE of ALL’.

‘He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities – all things were created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together’. Colossians 1:15-17

Jesus Christ is the source of all life and he holds all life together! Why would we not want to live every second of every day in his presence? For us to be a resource to others, to bear fruit and impart the abundant life of Christ to others we have to be tapped into the Source! Jesus is the True Vine, the source of all life, and we are the branches. As we live in Him, His life flows through us. Abiding is an active engagement in Him and a willingness to allow Him and His will to work through us.

ABIDE in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. … You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit and that your fruit should abide, so that whatever you [dare] to ask the Father in my name, he may give it to you.’ John 15:4-5 & 16

ABIDE is about dwelling and living in Him, in His Word, His Spirit and in His Love.

For “In him we live and move and have our being’ (Acts 17:28 ). One of my work colleagues joked about our Abide T-Shirt branding, saying; “May the Source be with you”. While I have appreciation for the movie reference, this isn’t Star Wars New Age philosophy. This is about the personal God of the universe dwelling in us by His Spirit, and wanting relationship with us. His promise; ‘I will abide in you as you abide in Me!’

How are you tapping into Jesus this year?
